Abdominal Training Exercises

Do abdominal exercises increase muscle mass, if I want a healthy weight gain?
Since I am underweight (5′ 9″, 119.5-121 lbs. range), my parents and relatives want me to gain weight. However, I don’t want to be like a buffed up person who has big arms and shoulders; I only want to have a very firm and lean body when gaining into an ideal weight. I read one time that weight training, along with proper diet, for weight gain is a good way to increase muscle mass. I find it hard to lift weights, and this is why I do a lot of push-ups and crunches because they are calisthenics, where your body makes most of the resistance. Does anyone have an idea if toning the upper and lower body can increase muscle weight or mass?
I am 18 years old, and, when it comes to weight lifting, I only lift dumbells just to develop my biceps.
You are not going to get bigger if you do not eat or use weights. You can tone up but you are not going to increase in size much.
